Security stepped up for racist party leader's TV appearance

Police and security guards at the BBC Television Centre are bound to have their work cut out when BNP leader Nick Griffin arrives for his much publicized TV appearance tonight. Anti-fascist activists will picket the West London building all day and step up their demo before the filming of political programme Question Time, on which Griffin will appear this evening. Despite fierce opposition and numerous appeals calling for the BBC to not allow the leader of the far right party to appear as a panellist on the programme, the broadcaster has insisted that Griffin will appear on the programme. BBC Director-General Mark Thompson said only Parliament should make rules curbing free speech. He said: "If there is a case for censorship, it should be debated and decided in parliament. Political censorship cannot be outsourced to the BBC or anyone else." Does that sound like a cop out? Tell us what you think.
